Don’t let this sleepy town fool you, like a shot of espresso, it has plenty to offer to keep you awake. Gunning town is just off Hume Highway, an hour’s worth drive from Canberra or a fantastic rendezvous between Sydney and Melbourne.

In your visit, start off by checking events calendar, it will certainly fill your bowl for activities like shopping at local markets, motorsports, fishing, high tea and more.

Gunning is a balance of heritage and history, spend your time meandering all over the town to see historic stone buildings still standing since 1800’s. Check out the Pye Cottage, it was donated by Pye Family to the Gunning Historical Society. This original slab hut is still well maintained even if it was built somewhere 1886 to 1887.

Don’t forget to explore Hume and Hovell Walking Track, Gunning to Port Philip Bay route famously pioneered by Hume and Hovell during 1824, you will never know, you might find something historically important.

If you have other needs to be taken cared of, head to Gunning Markets, a country style market, and it is full of locally grown produce, homemade jams, crafts and arts. If you got the love for arts and culture, drop by at Picturehouse Art Gallery, it is a performance art space for local and interstate artists; this is also a gallery and bookstore.
Aside from Sydney, Gunning has the privilege of being one of the two places in Australia where one can experience the firework displays. The Gunning Fireworks Festival held every September.
