The Most Fuel-Efficient Asian Cars of 2017, So Far

Asian cars are known for superb fuel efficiency. This is one of the major factors that can convince a potential car buyer to opt for an Asian brand instead of an American or European one. Not all Asian vehicles are created equal though; there are cars who stand out from the pack when it comes to maximum fuel efficiency. With so many choices available, we’ve narrowed down a short list for you to consider.

Toyota Prius

The Prius improved over the previous generation when it comes to miles per gallon consumption. The latest Prius has a 52 mpg overall compared to the older one’s 44 mpg. The Prius is known for its efficiency and low running costs – the vehicle can operate solely on electric and features a quieter engine.

Hyundai Ioniq

This is the direct challenger to the Prius with a consumption of 52 mpg overall. It is powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine. Combined with the electric drive, it produces 139 hp. Just like other hybrids, the Ioniq can run on electric power on low speeds.

Kia Niro

The Niro is a front-wheel drive hybrid powered by a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine that combines great fuel economy with cargo versatility. It produces 139 hp when combined with the electric drive unit. At 43 mpg overall, it’s not as superb as the Prius or Ioniq, but still more the decent comsumption.

Toyota Prius C

If you can’t afford a regular Prius, the Prius C is a great alternative. It looks and feels Spartan compared to its more expensive brother, but the 37 mpg, 43 mpg overall will appeal to the most frugal drivers.
