Land Rover to Create “New” Series 1 Vehicles

The company is set to produce re-created versions of its original Series 1 line, a famous 4×4 which first rolled out in 1948. Each “new” vehicle will cost around GBP 60,000 to GBP 80,000 and will feature an 80-inch or 86-inch chassis model.

Land Rover will be using existing Series 1 vehicles will be carefully chosen by the company’s team of experts. Each vehicle will be checked for authenticity and will undergo full restoration at the factory, following the original 1948 specifications.

There will be five period finishes: Light Green, Bronze Green, RAF Blue, Dove Grey and Poppy Red. The plan to recreate the Series 1 original came from the Land Rover Classic division. The project was announced at the Techno-Classica historic vehicle show held in Essen, Germany.

Those who will order the vehicles will be able to choose the base vehicle of their choice with the help of the company’s Classic Restoration team. They will be able to view the restoration process at the new Classic workshop located at the original Defender factory in Solihull in the UK. Aside from the restoration team, the restoration will be done by experienced workers from the old Defender production line.

Expected completion of the vehicles is within six to nine months.
