The Next Generation Range Rover May Move Up to Luxury Class

A new generation of the classic Discovery SUV will be introduced next year to replace the LR4 and re-introduce the Discovery name in the U.S. The next Discovery may take the place of the current Range Rover as a chance to push the latter up a class. This move will make the Range Rover include among the level of ultra-luxury SUVs such as Bentley Bentyaga and the Cullinan, Rolls-Royce’s rumoured upcoming SUV.

Gerry McGovern, Land Rover’s top design man, has revealed that the Discovery and Discovery Sport will be placed on the slot underneath the new luxury Range Rover. According to him, the Range Rover line has yet to hit its price ceiling and that the vehicle will be geared towards the upper market looking for an opulent SUV with off-road capabilities.

McGovern said that the Range Rover is not really meant to be a true seven-seat SUV, something that the Discover is made to be.
